The second half of 2020 didn’t bring any significant changes in interior design and furniture, but there are a few new trends. We still like to surround ourselves with things inspired by nature—the colors of wood, earth, and the natural world. On the other hand, we also appreciate industrial elements—metal, chrome, and brushed gold. This blend of contrasts allows us to create interesting furniture designs that look great in our homes.

Nature on the Rise
Trends continue to be dominated by finishes that reflect the natural grain of wood in a wide variety of shades—from light pine tones to rich oaks. Warm hues reminiscent of exotic woods are also emerging—in shades of yellow, brown, and even reddish tones. The trend of combining contrasts—wood tones with patterns evoking raw concrete, cool stones, and marble—remains strong. Metal and its imitations are also popular; they look particularly interesting as frames that accentuate the shape of a piece. Furniture with legs remains in vogue—especially those with geometric legs, designed to resemble metal structures.
Trendy matte
Our furniture is gradually losing its shine—what used to gleam not long ago now captivates with its elegant, matte finish. Dark, super-matte finishes are becoming increasingly popular—deep black, gray, navy blue, and green are now synonymous with prestige and good taste. Matte finishes look great when paired with wood stains. They’re also very practical, as they’re easier to keep spotlessly clean.
Lighting Effects
In recent years, furniture lighting has undergone a true revolution. Initially, lighting was an accessory to kitchen furniture, where it served primarily a functional purpose. Later, it began to appear in display cabinets in the living room, where it took on a purely aesthetic function—it highlighted the beauty of the items displayed behind the glass and created a cozy atmosphere in the evening. Nowadays, lighting is increasingly used to highlight the structure of cabinet fronts in living room furniture, especially when those fronts have a three-dimensional shape. LED lighting in children’s and teens’ furniture, however, is a completely new development. The trend is new, but it will certainly gain many fans.
The colors of nature, cabinet fronts in deep matte finishes, and lighting that creates the perfect atmosphere—these trends present a huge challenge for designers. They also offer an intriguing concept for anyone who wants to live in a stylish, interesting, and tasteful way.
