A school desk should come with a drawer and/or a cabinet with doors that can hold notebooks, books, and other school supplies. Freestanding drawer units also work great—they can be slid under the desk or placed right next to it. Another interesting option is desks combined with a bookshelf built into one side of the piece, as well as desks with add-on units. Remember, the more storage space you have for school supplies, the tidier your desk and the area around it will be.
It’s also worth thinking about the shape desks school. You can choose a classic rectangular desk or a corner desk, which will allow you to make functional use of the space in the corner of the room and provide plenty of work surface area.
Desk color
The color and style of a school desk are another important factor to consider when choosing this piece of furniture. Whether you’re looking for a school desk for a boy in grades 1–3 or a school desk for a teenage girl, it’s always a good idea to choose a piece of furniture with a design that appeals to the young person. It’s our child who will be spending over a dozen hours a week at their desk, so they simply have to feel great there. Because in a comfortable space, it’s much easier to achieve great things, embrace creativity, and let their imagination run wild.
Modern school desks are pieces of furniture with a very versatile style. Subdued colors such as white, black, and various shades of gray, as well as natural wood tones, are currently in style. School desks arranged in a mix of colors also look great—for example, a wood-toned desktop, a gray drawer unit, and black legs. The advantage of such subdued furniture is that it can be arranged in any way and easily customized to suit a child or teenager.
How can you make room for a school desk?
A school desk is the most important piece of furniture (along with a comfortable bed) in a student’s room. That’s why you simply have to make room for a teen desk, even if it means sacrificing other furniture in the room. And there are really many ways to do this.
It’s a good idea to divide a school-age child’s room into zones, and one of them should be a study area. In addition to a school desk and a chair, it’s a good idea to place a bookcase there and hang shelves on the wall for school supplies. A bulletin board will also come in handy, where your child can pin up notes with important information, photos, or small decorations.
The entire study area should be located near a window to ensure maximum natural light on the desk surface. The best arrangement is to position the school desk facing the window or at a right angle to it. It’s best to avoid having the window behind the person sitting at the desk, as this limits the amount of natural light. School desks are most often placed against a wall. This is a good solution for maintaining ergonomics in a child’s room. Remember not to place the desk with its back to the doorway—this can cause discomfort while studying.
Choosing the right school desk is key to your child’s comfort while doing homework and studying every day. A well-chosen desk will help maintain good posture and organize the space efficiently. This promotes productivity and makes the time spent studying much more enjoyable.
How do I choose the right size for a school desk?
The size of a school desk is the most important factor to consider when choosing this piece of furniture. Let’s start with the work surface. In theory, a school desk’s work surface should be as large as possible. The recommended dimensions for a teen desk are at least 110 cm wide and at least 60 cm deep. But the truth is, the larger the desk for a teenager’s room, the more comfortable it is for the student. Remember that you’re buying a school desk for several years, and children’s needs change as they advance through the grades. A first-grader only needs a surface large enough to lay out a workbook and a book, while a fourth-grader will already need space for a computer, books, notebooks, and much more. Therefore, if there’s enough space in the room, it’s better to choose a large school desk for a boy or a girl.
In addition to the dimensions of the tabletop, also pay attention to the height of the school desk, which should be adjusted to the child’s height. All of this is to ensure proper posture: a straight back, feet flat on the floor or on a footrest, and hands resting comfortably on the desk surface. However, it’s well known that children are constantly growing, which would mean that the school desk would need to be replaced as often as every two years. To avoid this, choose a high-quality, adjustable desk chair and a footrest. These two items will help maintain proper posture and provide support for the feet so they don’t dangle in the air.
