Modern Style
The basic and most important element of a home entertainment area is the TV cabinet. It’s always useful, even when the TV is mounted on the wall. Why? Because it has—or at least should have—drawers, compartments, and shelves where you can store your TV and audio equipment, remote controls, your collection of game and movie discs, and many other items. On its top, you can place a game console, audio equipment, or speakers. Make sure the cabinet has holes for cable management. It seems like a standard feature, yet many modern pieces of furniture aren’t equipped with such solutions. And there are few things worse than cables tangled up in the middle of the living room.
With a touch of tradition
However, if you decide to place your TV on a countertop, pay attention to the height of the cabinet. The TV should be positioned roughly at eye level for the person watching it. The length of the cabinet is also important—the TV looks better on a cabinet with a long top, and it’s safer that way, too.
Make the Most of Your Free Space
Don’t forget about the space above the TV. It’s worth paying attention to this area, since it’s where our eyes often wander. Hang something pretty and personal there—something that brings back good memories, such as large vacation photos or pictures of your favorite places in nice frames. If you’re the practical type, you can use this space for storage by hanging shelves for books and/or decorations—or even lockable cabinets. It’s also a great spot for some plants; their greenery will liven up the room and add a natural energy.
What should you place next to the cabinet?
It all depends on the size of the living room and the needs of its residents. However, there are three pieces of furniture that always work well—a bookcase, a display cabinet, and a chest of drawers. They provide additional closed storage space and a place to showcase decorations. Display cabinets with LED lighting look particularly striking, as the lighting highlights the items inside.
Get some rest!
The living room with its home entertainment area is where we spend our free time. Design this space to be cozy, comfortable, and functional, so that nothing disturbs your comfortable relaxation.
